First of all, open your browser and log in to your Gmail account to which you want to add 2-step verification security.

Now open click on your Gmail icon on the right top corner then click on the "Manage your google account" option. A new page will be open and here click on the "Security" option.

After Clicking on the security option, now you will see the "2-Step Verification" option then click on this option to turn on 2-Step verification security after that you will see the "Get Started" option now click on that button.

Here you will see your mobile device where your Gmail id already login and then click on the "Try It Now" button. Now here enter your mobile number then click on the "Send" button. Enter your OTP and turn on 2 step verification option.

To set up google-authenticator on your google account then follow the few below steps

Step 1

When you have set up the 2-Step verification on your google account on the same page scroll down and there you will see the option of Google Authenticator. Now click on the "SET UP" option.

Step 2 

Now you have to download the "Google Authenticator" app for your phone. For Android devices, you can install this app from the play store and for iOS devices, you can install this app from the apple app store.

Step 3

When you click on Google Authenticator "SET UP" option in your google account page. Now you have to choose your device if it is Android then choose the Android option if not then Chose the iOS option if you have iPhone devices.
